The German Jagdpanzer 38(t) Hetzer STARR in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter - a plastic kit of a rare tank destroyer variant with a rigidly mounted gun.
Responsibility details are not available.
Plastic kit of a little-known variant of the Hetzer tank destroyer with a rigidly mounted gun - hence the Starr nickname, meaning rigid. The 1:35 scale model offers a richly detailed hull, an engine compartment with the Praga engine, individual track links and photo-etched parts; the exact contents depend on the particular boxing.
The Hetzer was a compact, low tank destroyer built on the proven 38(t) chassis of Czechoslovak origin. The Starr variant had its 75 mm gun (Pak 39) mounted rigidly in the front of the hull without the usual recoil mechanism, which was meant to simplify the vehicle and make it cheaper to build. It never went beyond a small trial batch from the turn of 1944 and 1945, so it is a very unusual machine for a collector. The rigid mounting made aiming worse, however, and in the end this concept did not replace the ordinary Hetzer with its recoiling gun.
Expect a more demanding build because of the individual track links and the interior - paint the engine compartment and the inside before you close the hull. Glue the plastic with thin cement and the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. Lay down a primer and spray with an airbrush; the three-color camouflage will come alive with filters, a wash in the seams and pigments on the running gear and the lower hull.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
