The German railway open wagon — Gondola, lower sides, 1:35 from Trumpeter — an injection-molded plastic kit of a German open freight wagon for a railway and military diorama.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of a German open freight railway wagon of the Gondola type in the lower sides variant, in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter. It is a model of the wagon itself with its bogies, axles and load floor, which makes an ideal basis for a diorama of military equipment being moved by rail. A section of track is usually included as well.
Open freight wagons of this type formed the backbone of the freight traffic of the German railways (Deutsche Reichsbahn). The lower sides made loading and securing bulky cargo easier, and the wagons were therefore widely used to carry vehicles and combat equipment — from trucks and half-tracks to lighter armored vehicles. During the Second World War they were an indispensable link in military railway logistics, the means by which equipment was moved over long distances to the front.
Separate the parts with a sharp knife and bond them with liquid cement for plastic. Assemble and clean up the bogies, the axles and the running gear before you close the body, while they are still easy to reach. The planked load floor is nicely brought to life by picking out the wood grain. Apply a primer before painting, spray the period livery with an airbrush and age the surface: a panel wash in the seams, pigments for rust, dust and dried mud, and perhaps a hint of cargo residue on the floor.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
