Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded kit of the American M21 half-track vehicle, which carried an 81 mm mortar in its fighting compartment. The box holds plastic sprues, a clear part, a decal sheet and three crew figures. The tracks are vinyl, that is in a single band, not built up from individual links. The finished model is about 183 millimeters long.
American half-tracks were created as an armored vehicle for carrying infantry, but they also served as the chassis for a whole range of weapons. The M21 version carried the mortar facing forward, so it could fire directly from the vehicle without setting the weapon down on the ground. Fire support thus became mobile and could keep pace with advancing units. The main deployment fell on the Western Front in 1944 and 1945.
The mold dates from the middle of the 1970s, so the build is straightforward and suits less experienced modelers too. Do not glue the vinyl tracks with ordinary cement for plastic, it will not join them; use cyanoacrylate glue or clamp the joint. The open fighting compartment is visible, so finish and paint it before you seat the hull. Olive green comes out best after shading and after adding dust on the running gear and the fenders.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
