An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:35 scale from AFV Club capturing the American 105 mm M101A1 howitzer on the M2A2 carriage. The box states a metal gun barrel with a bore, photo-etched parts, rubber wheels with the tread of the late wartime version and a working recoil mounting. The gun can be built in the firing position as well as hitched up. The decals cover American, Korean, Australian and Taiwanese vehicles and positions.
The M101 howitzer was the standard American divisional artillery piece of the Second World War and stayed in service for whole generations after it. It was built in enormous numbers, was simple to work and could be towed by practically anything, from a truck to a tracked carrier. The A1 version on the M2A2 carriage is its most widespread form. The gun served in Korea, in Vietnam and in dozens of armies that received it after the war, and some still keep it for training or in reserve.
Choose the position of the gun in advance, because the trail arms and the position of the wheels change with it. Glue the metal barrel and the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. American olive green comes alive if the surfaces are lightened slightly and the edges picked out; leave the rubber wheels darker and dusty. For an artillery piece the best setting is a patch of terrain with ammunition and boxes, where weathering on the outriggers comes into its own too.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
