An injection-molded plastic kit of the American half-track vehicle that became a symbol of Allied mobile infantry. The set comes from the long-running military miniature series of the Japanese firm Tamiya and is typical of it in the clear division of the parts and the well-fitting assembly. Figures are included in the package, so the model can be built straight away as a scene rather than as an empty vehicle.
The half-track vehicles of the M3 family came about by combining a wheeled front end with a tracked running gear at the rear. At the front they carried a roller or a winch, the hull was open and lined with benches for the squad. They served as an infantry carrier, a gun tractor, an ambulance and a weapons platform, and under the aid deliveries they reached other Allied armies as well. The M3A2 version was a late form that unified the hull.
Finish and paint the running gear and the inside of the hull before the hull is closed up and fitted with the benches, because after that there is no getting inside with a brush. The tracks and the wheels take a dark wash and dry mud pigments along the lower edges well. An open hull is rewarding for small equipment: boxes, tarpaulins and weapons give a scene life.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
