This glued plastic kit brings together two things that belong to each other: the American M920 heavy tractor and the M870A1 lowboy semitrailer on which armored and engineer vehicles are carried. In 1:35 scale the rig is one of the larger projects in ground modeling and offers the unusual chance to build what amounts to two models in one box. On top of that another model from your collection can be loaded onto the semitrailer, which turns the whole thing into a striking display scene.
Heavy tractors of the US Army are based on commercial trucks fitted with military equipment, which shortens development and lowers the cost of operation. The M920 belongs to the same family as the M915 road tractor and is intended for heavier tasks, that is, for carrying tracked and wheeled vehicles rather than letting them move under their own power. The M870A1 semitrailer is a lowboy with a folding ramp section up which a vehicle drives under its own power. Carrying tanks and machines on a lowboy saves wear on the vehicles and fuel and is a normal part of moves over long distances.
Work on the two separately: first finish the tractor and the semitrailer on its own, and only then join them. On the long frame of the semitrailer check honestly that it is not twisted and that all the wheels sit down. Painting is easier before the rig is joined, because the surfaces are easier to reach. Road vehicles tend to be dusty mainly in the lower half, while the load bed of the semitrailer will take heavier chipping and marks left by loaded vehicles, which add to the credibility of the whole.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
