A set of diorama accessories from the Czech maker Plusmodel in 1:35 scale. It contains metal advertising signs in a period German form. It is a small thing that carries unexpected weight in a diorama: a single sign on a wall tells the viewer which country and which decade the scene is set in, without your having to add anything else.
Enameled and painted metal signs hung on every corner in the first half of the twentieth century: on shop fronts, on workshop gates, at railway stations and on country buildings. They were colorful, striking and durable, so they lasted for years and gradually rusted and flaked. It is exactly this state that is the most rewarding for a modeler, because it gives the surface texture and a story.
Glue the sign so that it stands slightly proud of the wall and casts a shadow. After painting, work the flaking in: use a sponge to apply small patches revealing the metal, add rust along the edges and let vertical rust streaks run down the wall below the sign. Even the sheen out with semi-matte varnish and dust the surface lightly with pigment, otherwise the sign will look new.
The set is supplied unpainted. Paints, glue and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
