An injection-molded plastic kit of the German improvised tank destroyer Marder II D, officially the Sd.Kfz. 132, in 1:35 scale from Bronco. The vehicle combined the chassis of the Panzer II in the D form with a captured Soviet gun, and it is one of the most striking improvisations of the whole war.
When it became clear in 1941 that German anti-tank guns were not enough against Soviet tanks, improvisation stepped in. The Marder II D carried a captured Soviet gun of 76.2 mm caliber on the chassis of the Panzer II in the D form, in a tall open sheet-metal superstructure. The result was effective, but conspicuously tall, completely unprotected from above and thinly armored — the crew was exposed to shell splinters and to infantry fire while firing. Even so it was the first German self-propelled weapon that really could deal with the T-34 and the KV, and it served mainly on the Eastern Front.
A tall open superstructure means that the interior and the gun are entirely visible, so finish and paint them before you close the superstructure up. The gun is the main thing on this vehicle: drill the muzzle out if it is not open. Assemble the running gear with its five large wheels on torsion bars carefully and check that both sides are at the same height. Spent shell cases, blankets and equipment in the superstructure give the scene some action. The German dark gray or dark yellow paint will take a stronger emphasis of the edges with a dry brush.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
