Injection-molded plastic kit of a modernized Soviet medium tank in 1:35 scale from Rye Field Model. The model captures the T-55 AM-1 version with add-on armor on the turret and the glacis, and it offers workable (assembled, functioning) tracks as part of the package. Take the exact parts count and the markings from the instructions in the box.
The T-55 was one of the most widespread medium tanks of the Cold War, built in enormous numbers and used all over the world. The AM modernization added passive add-on armor, an improved fire control system and a stronger engine, so that the aging design could hold up longer against newer opponents. The T-55 AM-1 version belongs to the later batches of this upgrade. T-55 tanks in various modernized forms remain in service with some armies to this day.
Build in sub-assemblies and finish the running gear before varnishing. Do not forget the rangefinder box above the gun barrel and the add-on armor, which set the AM version apart visually. Assemble the workable tracks according to the instructions and let them dry out before fitting, so that they stay flexible. Apply a primer before painting and spray with an airbrush. The add-on armor and the running gear will gratefully take washes into the recesses and pigments for mud and dust effects.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
