A kit of telegraph poles for a diorama in 1:35 scale. It is made up of a fret of metal parts, twenty-seven resin parts and wooden accessories. It is not a model of a vehicle but a scenic element: the poles give a scene the direction, the height and the scale that an area of terrain on its own would not have.
A diorama usually has one fundamental problem: it is flat. Vehicles and figures lie close to the ground and the viewer's eye has nowhere to climb. A vertical element such as a telegraph pole solves that at once. It also sets the direction of a road and suggests that the scene continues beyond the edge of the base, which is the simplest way to give a diorama depth.
First wash the resin parts in lukewarm soapy water, so that the mold release agent disappears from the surface. Cut the casting blocks off and level the area, and protect your breathing while sanding. Bend the metal parts over a rule. The wood of a pole looks best after thin glazes and a wash rather than after an opaque color. Paint the insulators in a different color and add a gloss varnish, so that they read as glass or porcelain. Run the wire between the poles from thin thread only once they are set into the terrain.
