A plastic kit of the mobile AN/TWQ-1 Avenger air defense system in 1:35 scale from AFV Club. It is an entirely new mold, which brings a newly worked chassis of the off-road vehicle as well as a rotating turret with two launch pods. The package holds photo-etched parts and makes it possible to build the vehicle in several configurations.
The Avenger is a very short range system that came about as a private project and entered US Army service in the early 1990s. It carries eight Stinger anti-aircraft missiles in two rotating pods and a 12.7 mm machine gun between them. Its task is to cover ground units against low-flying helicopters and attack aircraft, and because it sits on an ordinary off-road chassis it keeps pace with the column it protects.
Finish the interior and the chassis first, and only then close the body. Build the turret and the pods separately, so that they can be painted on their own and fitted at the very end. On modern American hardware a matte sand or three-color finish rounded out by a fine dust effect on the lower areas works well. Glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue).
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
