The M19 came out of the need for air defense that could keep up with advancing tank units. An open traversing mount with two 40 mm guns was therefore built onto the chassis of a light tank. In Korea, however, the enemy was almost absent in the air, and so anti-aircraft equipment turned into a weapon for infantry support: a pair of quick-firing guns could suppress infantry and light fortifications with concentrated fire, which at mountain positions was valued more than the original purpose. The vehicle is thus among the most striking examples of equipment that proved itself in a different role.

Assemble and paint the tracks separately. The ammunition clips and magazines are among the most rewarding details: a brass shade and small touches of color will liven up an otherwise uniformly green vehicle. Put dust and mud on the running gear and the underside, and leave the upper surfaces lighter.
