The casting captures a masonry fountain with a basin of the kind that stands in the squares and village greens of southern Europe. The manufacturer gives resin as the material. Compared with the small drinking fountains of the same range this is a markedly larger building element, which takes up an area of its own on a base and becomes the main point of a scene.
A public fountain long filled the role of a water supply and of a social place. People queued at it with a bucket, chatted and waited for news. In war scenes it appears as the place where a column stops or the radiator of a vehicle is topped up, and it gives a scene a civilian anchor in a particular region. Figures also gather naturally around a fountain, so it serves as an excuse to bring a whole scene to life.
After washing and the primer, build the stone up in layers: a darker base coat, a lighter dry brush on the edges and finally a greenish deposit where the water runs down. The water surface can be made with a clear two-part compound poured once the paints have dried; pour it in several thin layers and let it cure undisturbed. Suggest the lime efflorescence with a thin white deposit under the spout and add a wet gloss at the foot of the structure, because water always splashes there.
