Royal Model offers here a resin backdrop of a jetty of hewn logs and rough planks. It serves as a scene under a boat and as a standalone shore scene where the everyday work of a supply base takes place.
After the landings in the Solomon Islands, the facilities for torpedo boats and landing craft were built literally out of whatever grew around them. Engineers drove logs into the coral bottom, laid planks on them, and a jetty like that lasted surprisingly long, even though it was repaired after every storm. Boats moored along its edges, fuel was topped up from drums, ammunition was loaded and the wounded were taken away. Damp, salt and heat turned the wood gray within a few months and it grew over with algae.
First get the grease off the casting with a short bath in warm water with a drop of dishwashing liquid. Wood gains depth if, after the base color, you work it with several thin glazes in gray, ocher and olive, never with a single full coat. Suggest the nail heads with dark dots, add a greenish tinge to the lower part of the piles and dry pigment where the water did not reach. You create the water surface around it with acrylic gel.
The jetty arrives as a raw casting, and the finishing material is missing from the box.
