A supersonic airliner in 1:48 scale makes for a kit of exceptional size. It is a resin model from the Czech maker HPH Models, which casts its parts into silicone molds under vacuum. The brand specializes in large aircraft in this scale and the Concorde is among its most demanding items, both in size and in what it asks of the builder. The model is intended for experienced modelers, and you should reckon with the finished piece needing an exceptionally large display case.
The Concorde was a joint effort of British and French industry and the only supersonic airliner to fly in scheduled service for decades. A tailless delta wing, a drooping nose for the view on landing and four engines with afterburners let it fly at twice the speed of sound. The designations 101 and 102 correspond to the production aircraft delivered to the British and French carriers. Operations ended in 2003.
First wash the resin parts in lukewarm water with dish soap to remove the mold release agent, otherwise paint will not hold on them. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a knife, never snap them off. The parts are bonded with super glue, that is cyanoacrylate, because cement for plastic will not bite into resin. Use respiratory protection while sanding and cutting. Primer is essential before painting, and it also shows up any flaws in the surface.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted as a resin kit. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
