Pre-cut painting masks in 1:48 scale for models of the Martin Baltimore bomber. According to the manufacturer they are intended for the clear parts and for the landing gear wheels of the Special Hobby kit. The set contains no plastic, no decals and no paints: these are purely masks that make the build faster and more accurate.
The Baltimore was an American twin-engine attack bomber, built mainly for the Royal Air Force and used chiefly in the Mediterranean. Its glazing is heavily subdivided and cutting masking tape for it by hand means hours of work with an uncertain result. Pre-cut masks solve that problem: they cover the canopy frames exactly and at the same time mask the tires so that the hubs can be sprayed separately.
Peel the masks off the carrier film with the tip of a scalpel or with tweezers and stick them to a clean, degreased surface. Press them down with a wooden toothpick so that no paint gets under the edge. Apply the paint in thin coats, ideally with an airbrush; a heavy coat flakes away when the mask comes off. Take the masks off as soon as the paint has set, because they release less easily from a fully cured finish. Wipe any adhesive residue off with a cotton swab moistened with water.
The masks are supplied on their own, without a kit and without paints, unless stated otherwise.
