An injection-molded plastic kit of the German Dornier Do 335 Pfeil in 1:48 scale from the German manufacturer Revell. The larger scale means more parts and more room for detail than in the usual 1:72. The Model Set version adds the basic paints, a brush and glue to the model, so you can start building straight away.
The Do 335 is among the most unusual aircraft of the Second World War. It had two piston engines placed on the fuselage axis, one in the nose with a tractor propeller and the second behind the cabin with a pusher propeller aft of the tail surfaces. Such a solution gave the machine the performance of a twin-engine aircraft without the drag of engine nacelles on the wing and without the trouble of asymmetric thrust after the failure of one engine. The tail unit had the shape of a cross with a lower vertical surface, which protected the rear propeller on takeoff. Only a small number of machines were built and the type saw practically no combat use.
The cabin and the rear engine section will ask for most attention, because once the fuselage is closed you cannot get at them. On models like this the long fuselage tends to break along the seam, so fill the joint and sand it back. Cement the rear propeller and the lower vertical surface at the very end so that they do not snap off. Late-war camouflage looks good with soft transitions and a fine wash in the panel lines.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. According to the manufacturer, the Model Set contains the basic paints, a brush and glue; other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
