A 3D-printed resin boarding ladder for a model of the F-16 aircraft in 1:48 scale from GINGER CAT. The manufacturer gives one piece in the package. It is an accessory for a finished model, not a kit of the aircraft; the ladder hooks onto the fuselage by the cockpit and the model of the aircraft is not included in the package.
A boarding ladder is a necessity on a fighter, because the cockpit sits high above the ground and on many types the ladder hooks directly onto the edge of the fuselage. On a model it does two things: it explains how the pilot got into the open cockpit, and it gives the aircraft scale, because the height of a step is something anyone can picture. On a model with the canopy open and a figure by the aircraft it is therefore all but compulsory. Without it an open cockpit looks as if the pilot had jumped into it out of nowhere.
3D-printed parts are small and brittle: separate them with a fine-tooth saw or with nippers and level the remains of the print supports with a fine file. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue); solvent cement for plastic does not hold. Before painting, spray a thin coat of primer, as a heavy coat would drown the detail.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
