About product

Focke-Wulf Fw 190 D-9 in 1:48 scale, Basic Kit version

An injection-molded plastic kit from the Ukrainian manufacturer Miniart. The manufacturer uses the Basic Kit designation for the version without the supplementary materials that it puts in the Advanced variant, so this is a purely plastic release aimed at the model itself. The markings cover the well-known protective flight of a jet unit from the last weeks of the war.

The real subject

The Fw 190 D-9 was a reworked version of the well-known fighter, in which a liquid-cooled engine replaced the radial. The nose grew longer as a result and the aircraft earned a nickname referring to that long nose. The flight covered here had a special task: to protect the jet aircraft of Jagdverband 44 at the moment of takeoff and landing, when they were at their most vulnerable. So that their own anti-aircraft defenses would not shoot them down, the aircraft were given conspicuous red and white stripes on the undersurfaces. Heinz Sachsenberg commanded the unit and its pilots were experienced airmen in the closing stage of the war.

Building and painting tips

Finish and paint the cockpit before you glue the fuselage together, otherwise you will no longer reach it. The parts are bonded with liquid cement for plastic. Fit the glazing and mask it before spraying so that no paint gets inside. Before the decals, go over the surfaces with a gloss clear coat; on a matte surface air would be trapped under the decal and the edge would turn white. Unify the finished paintwork with a matte varnish and only then add the chipping and the exhaust stains.

Who the model is for

  • builders of Second World War Luftwaffe subjects
  • those interested in the last months of the war and in jet units
  • modelers who want conspicuous markings without inventing them
  • those looking for a model without supplementary materials and with a simpler build

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is the version without the supplementary materials that the manufacturer adds to the Advanced variant. The contents are therefore plastic and the build simpler.

They protected jet aircraft during takeoff and landing and had to be recognizable at first glance, so that their own anti-aircraft defenses would not shoot them down.

It received a liquid-cooled engine in place of the radial. The nose grew longer, and that is where the nickname referring to the long nose comes from.

In the Basic version the manufacturer does not declare any supplementary materials, so do not count on them. Check the contents of the package on the box.
