An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:48 scale from AFV Club capturing the single-seat version of the Taiwanese F-CK-1 Ching-Kuo combat aircraft. The box states clear parts, photo-etched metal, a pair of resin parts, material for Remove Before Flight tags and decals for four machines. The landing gear can be built retracted as well as extended, and two versions of the engine exhaust nozzles are there to choose from.
The F-CK-1 came about in Taiwan at a time when the island could not buy modern combat aircraft abroad, and so it designed and built its own machine at home. Hence its second name, the indigenous defense fighter. The airframe is light, with a pair of engines, side air intakes and armament from domestic production. The aircraft first flew at the end of the 1980s, entered service in the 1990s and went through several upgrades. The single-seat C version is the basic combat variant; a two-seat variant exists as well.
Finish the cockpit and the landing gear bays while the parts are accessible; glue the photo-etched metal into the cockpit with cyanoacrylate glue, not with cement for plastic. Mask the glazing before you start spraying. The gray and gray-white Taiwanese schemes come alive if the individual panels are subtly shaded; the light undersides take a slight lightening. Spray a gloss coat before the decals, flatten the surface afterwards and pick out the engraved panel lines with a fine wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
