An injection-molded plastic kit of the carrier-based special aircraft KA-3B Skywarrior in 1:48 scale. It is an extensive mold with clear parts; the finished model has a span of around 46 centimeters, so it belongs among the large pieces for a display case. The manufacturer adds photo-etched seat belts for the seats.
The Douglas A-3 Skywarrior was a twin-engine jet carrier bomber of the US Navy from the turn of the 1940s and 1950s, and among the crews its size earned it the nickname Whale: it was one of the heaviest machines that routinely launched from aircraft carriers. The KA-3B version was created by converting A-3B bombers into carrier-based tankers: instead of a bomb bay they carried fuel and a refueling system with a hose and a reel, and they extended the range of the strike squadrons. In this role the Skywarriors also served over Vietnam and stayed in the line long after more modern types had replaced them in the attack role.
Join the long fuselage and the large wings section by section with thin cement for plastic and let each joint harden before you move on to the next. Naval finishes tend to be smooth, so it pays to sand the surface after filling and to lay down primer. Paint the cockpit, the landing gear bays and the interior before the fuselage is closed. The decals will seat better on an intermediate gloss clear coat.
