Responsibility details are not available.
A short-run injection-molded plastic kit of the American twin-engined bomber Martin Maryland in British and Allied service in 1:48 scale from the Czech company Special Hobby. It is a new mold dating from 2010 and a limited edition. The box holds four sprues of gray plastic, a clear sprue, cast resin parts, a photo-etched fret and a decal sheet for four machines.
The Maryland came about as an American attack bomber, but the American forces did not adopt it and the whole production went for export. The first batch was taken by France, and after its fall the Royal Air Force took over the remaining machines and the French orders. It was precisely in British service that the type found its greatest use, and in an unexpected role: as a long-range reconnaissance aircraft operating from Malta. Adrian Warburton, one of the best-known reconnaissance pilots of the war, flew from there as well, and some of the markings in the box relate to his machines.
A short-run mold means dry-fitting, filling and sanding; according to reviews the plastic in this kit is soft and works well. Wash the resin parts clean of mold release agent and glue them with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue), and the photo-etched fret likewise. The glazed nose is large and the frames are conspicuous, so masking templates or very careful work with tape is worth having. Settle the decals over a gloss base.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
