The real subject

The abbreviation OFAB designates a Soviet high-explosive fragmentation aerial bomb, that is a weapon that besides a blast wave also scatters fragments, and is therefore suited to unprotected targets and light equipment. The double number in the designation is not a mistake: the first gives the weight class, the second the actual weight of the particular body, which differed somewhat. Bombs of this class were among the most common armament of ground-attack aircraft and tactical bombers.

Usage tips

Bombs are painted off the model and fitted only at the end. After washing off the print resin residue, apply a thin base, then the main shade and finally a dark wash, which will draw out the seams and bolts. Do the lettering and the color bands on the body of the bomb with masking tape or a fine brush, not freehand. Under the pylons we recommend only fitting the bombs dry and checking whether they clash with the landing gear and the flaps, and gluing them only then. Do not glue printed resin with cement for plastic; it will not hold.
