An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:48 scale from AFV Club capturing the German Sd.Kfz.251/1 armored half-track in the Ausf.C version. The box states a fully fitted hull interior, suspension molded directly into the hull, one-piece flexible tracks and decals for five vehicles. MG 34 and MG 42 machine guns are not missing either. The finished model measures about thirteen centimeters.
The Sd.Kfz.251 was the most used German half-track of the Second World War, and the /1 version was its basic form for carrying infantry. Joining wheeled steering to a tracked running gear gave the vehicle cross-country performance that wheeled trucks did not have, and light armor protected the crew from splinters and infantry fire. The Ausf.C version is recognized by the single sloped front plate ahead of the engine and by the boxes on the fenders. The vehicles ran with all the Panzer divisions as escorts for the tanks, and their hull became the basis of dozens of special conversions.
Finish and paint the hull interior while it is accessible, because once it is closed you will not reach most of the parts. Do not glue the flexible tracks with ordinary cement for plastic; they hold with cyanoacrylate glue. A dark yellow base sprayed with green and brown patches matches most of the period, and a slight lightening of the upper surfaces of the model helps. Weathering belongs mainly in the running gear and on the fenders, where pigments for mud and dust come into their own.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
