An injection-molded plastic kit of the shipborne helicopter Kaman SH-2F Seasprite. For this box the manufacturer gives gray and clear plastic sprues, photo-etched parts and decals for US Navy machines; the rotor can be built either folded or spread and the cabin door slid open. Check the contents of the package on the box.
The SH-2F Seasprite was a small twin-engine shipborne helicopter of the US Navy, created by rebuilding an originally single-engine machine. It did not serve from aircraft carriers but from the decks of destroyers and frigates, where every meter counted, which is why it had a folding rotor and tail boom. Its task was anti-submarine work and surveillance around the ship: it carried detection equipment, sonobuoys and light armament and at the same time served for transport and rescue at sea. It stayed in service into the 1990s, when a more capable version took over.
Dry-fit the rotor head before gluing so that you know how the blades will sit in relation to one another; on a parked helicopter the blades sag slightly, which can be suggested by careful warming. Finish the cabin before the glazing is set in place and mask the canopies with liquid mask. Play up the differences between the panels in the naval gray and white scheme and keep the weathering at the level of a machine in service: salt stains and oil runs yes, rust no.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
