A plastic kit of the British fighter Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IXc in 1:48 scale from the Turkish brand Ginger Cat. For it the manufacturer gives printed resin parts, photo-etched parts, a 3D cockpit decal, a masking template and five liveries on offer. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, and glue and paints are not included in the package.
The Spitfire Mk.IX came about as a quick answer to the German Fw 190: a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine with a two-stage supercharger was fitted into the airframe of the older version, and it gave the aircraft performance at high altitude. The two-stage engine needed larger radiators under both wings, so the Mk.IX is recognized by its symmetrical radiator baths. The letter c added to the designation means the universal wing, which allowed cannon and machine guns to be combined.
Glue the plastic parts with a thin cement for plastic, which melts the joint, and apply a thin layer into the seam with a fine brush. Fill and sand the seams, then spray the whole model with a primer, which will reveal any remaining grooves. Decals hold best over a gloss intermediate coat, and a matte clear coat pulls the result together. The cleanest color transitions come from an airbrush; when spraying by hand, apply the paint in several thin coats rather than one heavy one.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
