The Douglas A2D Skyshark was an American carrier-based attack aircraft developed at the turn of the 1940s and 1950s as a turboprop successor to the piston-engined Skyraider. It was powered by a turboprop unit driving two contra-rotating propellers, which was to give the aircraft a substantially higher speed while keeping a large load and long endurance. Trouble with the powerplant dogged the development and the program finally ended at the stage of prototypes and a small evaluation batch, without the aircraft entering squadron service. The designation XA2D-1 belongs precisely to the prototype machines.
Apply the mask to a clean, degreased and dry surface. Frame the glazing frames around their perimeter, cover the panes with a mask of their own or add masking tape stretched over the remaining area. Press the edges down carefully with a toothpick once they are stuck, otherwise the paint will creep underneath. Spray in thin coats and at low pressure, because a thick coat creates a step at the edge. Remove the mask while the paint is still freshly dry but not cured, and do it at a sharp angle so that the paint underneath is not torn away. Any adhesive residue comes off with a gentle wipe.
