The main purchasing distinction is the equipment level: this is the Standard version, that is the basic level, which builds on plastic parts and decals. The manufacturer also releases the same ship in the Deluxe edition with detailing accessories, and the Platinum level stands highest in the line. The scope of the accessories differs from vessel to vessel, so check the contents on the box. The CL designation belongs to a light cruiser.
San Diego was an anti-aircraft light cruiser of the Atlanta class, that is a vessel built above all to protect the task force against air attack. The main armament consisted of guns of 127 mm caliber supplemented by automatic cannon. The ship is among the most decorated American vessels of the Second World War and is credited with eighteen battle honors. After the capitulation of Japan she was among the first Allied warships to enter Tokyo Bay. The year given refers to the wartime appearance of the vessel, not to the year the kit was released.
