USS Worcester CL-144 is a plastic kit of the American postwar light cruiser in 1:700 from Vee Hobby, supplied in the Standard version, that is in the basic equipment level.

An injection-molded plastic kit of the light cruiser Worcester. The main purchasing distinction is the equipment level, and with this vessel the difference is documented: the Standard version builds on plastic sprues and decals, while the Deluxe edition adds to them two photo-etched sets, turned brass barrels, brass masts, a wooden deck sticker, deck masks and a metal anchor chain. So if you want photo-etch and brass straight out of the box, reach for the Deluxe edition. The decals include hull numbers for Worcester as well as for her sister Roanoke.
Worcester entered service on June 26, 1948 as the lead ship of her class, so she was not a participant in the Second World War. Of the ten units planned only two were completed, Worcester and Roanoke. The ship was built around a new dual-purpose gun of 152 mm caliber, the first six-inch cannon able to fire effectively at aircraft as well, with a rate of fire of around nine to ten rounds per minute. In the Korean War she supported the landing at Inchon and carried out fire support and raiding duties. She was stricken on December 19, 1958.
Decide between the full hull and the waterline, as the choice of stand depends on it too. The postwar gray finish is uniform, so it comes out better through shading of the decks and gentle weathering than through masking. Paint the decks separately from the hull. A separately purchased photo-etched set with railings lifts the finished model considerably.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
