In its own designation the manufacturer lists it as the mod. 1943 version, that is with the stepped front of the hull. It is a classic small kit for gluing and painting, with no electronics and no moving mechanisms.
The IS-2 was a Soviet heavy tank of the last phase of the Second World War and its main weapon was a 122 mm gun. It was loaded with separate-loading ammunition, so the rate of fire was low, but a single hit could knock out even a well-armored target or blow apart a fortified emplacement. That is exactly why heavy tank regiments with the IS-2 were committed to breaking through prepared defenses and in urban fighting, Berlin included. The early machines had a stepped front of the hull; the later ones went over to a single sloped plate, which deflected hits better.
Glue the running gear and align it on a flat surface, so that the model does not stand crooked; with heavy tanks that catches the eye at once. The large smooth surfaces of the hull take suggested welds and rolling marks, which draw themselves out in a uniform green shade under a dark wash. Apply the white tactical markings and numbers only onto a smoothed gloss base, otherwise they bleed at this small scale.
