A set of cast wheels for the American Curtiss C-46 Commando transport aircraft in 1:72 scale from the Czech maker Plusmodel. On a large twin-engine machine the wheels carry the whole weight of the model and the viewer has them at eye level. Castings usually have finer tread detail and the sag of the tire under the weight of the aircraft suggested, which plastic parts as a rule do not have.
The Curtiss C-46 Commando was a twin-engine transport aircraft with radial engines and a capacious fuselage. It made its name on the route over the eastern spur of the Himalayas, where in difficult conditions it supplied the Chinese front. Compared with the more widespread C-47 it offered a greater payload and more power, but it was more demanding to maintain and to fly.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent and cut the casting blocks off with a saw so that the cut falls where the wheel meets the ground. Glue them with cyanoacrylate glue. Paint the tires dark gray, not black, and leave the crown lighter. Apply a dark wash into the tread and dirty the lower part of the wheels with dust pigment. Set the wheel rims apart with a metallic shade.
The set is an accessory for a kit and does not replace the kit. Paints, glue and a model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
