A set of cast wheels for the Lockheed L-749 Constellation airliner in 1:72 scale from the Czech maker Plusmodel. On large aircraft the wheels are among the most conspicuous parts of all, because the model stands on them and the viewer has them at eye level. Castings usually have the sag of the tire under the weight of the machine suggested and better tread detail than plastic parts.
The Lockheed Constellation was a four-engine airliner with an unmistakable curved fuselage line and a triple vertical tail. It was powered by radial engines and on long-haul routes it meant a fundamental step forward in comfort and in range. The L-749 version was one of the early postwar forms and flew with the big airlines on intercontinental routes.
Wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent and cut the casting blocks off with a saw so that the cut falls where the wheel meets the ground. Glue them with cyanoacrylate glue. Paint the tires dark gray, not black, and leave the crown lighter. Apply a dark wash into the tread and dirty the lower part of the wheels with dust pigment. Set the wheel rims apart with a metallic or a light shade.
The set is an accessory for a kit and does not replace the kit. Paints, glue and a model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
