An accessory for modelers, not an aircraft kit. The package holds a clear cockpit part made by vacuum forming from thin transparent film. Compared with an ordinary injection-molded part, a vacuum-formed canopy is markedly thinner, so it looks more convincing and distorts the view into the interior you took the trouble to work up much less. The accessory is supplied by Clear Prop Models.
The Mitsubishi A5M, under the Allied code name Claude, was a Japanese carrier-based fighter of the 1930s and one of the first all-metal monoplanes of its class. Its marks of recognition were the fixed, non-retractable landing gear and the clean aerodynamics of the airframe. The A5M4 version was the main production version of the type.
Vacuum-formed parts are worked differently from injection-molded ones. Do not cut the part out with a knife close to its outline, because the thin film cracks. First cut it roughly out with scissors along with the surrounding material, then sand the lower edge down gradually on fine abrasive paper laid on a flat board, until you reach the parting line exactly. Try the part on the fuselage as you go. It is worth making a spare copy in advance or working carefully, because vacuum-formed parts tend to come in a limited number per package. Glue them with an adhesive that dries clear, that is white PVA glue or a crystal-clear canopy glue; the fumes of cyanoacrylate glue will fog the clear surface. Mask the frames with thin tape or with masks and spray the interior shade first, only then the exterior finish.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and is not a model in its own right. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package. Please check the match with your kit before ordering.
