Montecassino Abbey 1944 Breaking the Gustav Line (1:72, Italeri) is a battle diorama set — a model of the abbey with figures and vehicles, not a vehicle on its own.
Responsibility details are not available.
An extensive Battle Set in 1:72 scale — it is a complete basis for a diorama, not a vehicle on its own. Its central element is a model of the Benedictine abbey of Monte Cassino in laser-cut MDF, which can be built either intact or in ruins. To that the box adds infantry figures and armored vehicles, so the scene can be put together straight away as a battle tableau.
The abbey of Monte Cassino above the valley of the river Liri was a key point of the German Gustav Line. From January to May 1944 one of the hardest and bloodiest battles of the Italian campaign of the Second World War was fought here; the historic abbey was heavily destroyed and many soldiers on both sides fell in the fighting. The decisive attack was finally led by units of the Polish Corps. The set recalls this place factually and with respect for its history.
First fit the walls of the abbey together and decide whether you want the scene intact or in ruins — the placement of the rubble and the breached sections follows from that. Imitate the stone and the plaster by layering light gray-beige shades, with a wash running into the recesses and a dry brush on the edges. Heavy weathering is appropriate here: soot from fires, dust, crushed rubble, a hint of moss and staining. Base the figures and the vehicles with an airbrush and finish them with washes and pigments. Complete the base with diorama materials — rubble, static grass and pigments to unify the scene.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
