This injection-molded plastic kit captures the German Karl self-propelled siege mortar in the Gerat 041 version with the 54 cm barrel. The package contains plastic sprues, flexible tracks and a detailed mounting and the longer barrel. The model is built in the traveling position.
The Karl-Gerat was among the largest self-propelled mortars ever deployed. The Gerat 041 version received a new, longer barrel of the reduced 54 cm caliber, which gave the vehicle a substantially greater range than the original 60 cm version. The development was originally ordered from Rheinmetall by the army in 1937 with the aim of destroying heavily fortified targets. Only a handful of examples were built, and they carried names of their own.
Assemble the running gear and the mounting, and only then fit the lengthened barrel. Use liquid modeling cement on the plastic. The large machine comes out well with a bold patina, lightened surfaces and heavy dust and mud pigments on the running gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
