A plastic kit of the Soviet light self-propelled gun SU-76 in 1:72 scale from the Russian brand Zvezda. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted, and glue and paints are not included in the package. With light equipment 1:72 scale is an advantage, because the finished model takes up little space and combines well with infantry in a small diorama or in a tabletop game.
The SU-76 was a light self-propelled gun built on the lengthened chassis of a light tank and armed with an artillery barrel of 76.2 mm caliber. The fighting compartment was open, with no roof, which gave the crew a good field of view and contact with the infantry but did not protect them from shell splinters or from the weather. An extraordinary number were built, and it served above all for supporting infantry with direct fire, less for fighting tanks.
With military equipment it pays to keep to the order: the running gear and the interior first, then closing up the hull, and only at the end the small fittings. Glue the plastic parts with a thin cement for plastic, fill the seams and sand them down. After the primer and the main shade comes a dark wash into the recesses, which picks out the detail, and a dry brush on the edges. Build up dust and mud effects with pigments from the bottom upward and only in places where dirt would really get to.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
