A kit of the Tupolev TB-1 (ANT-4) in 1:72 scale from the Ukrainian maker Mikromir. It is injection-molded plastic from a short-run mold; according to the manufacturer the package also holds clear parts and a small photo-etched fret.
The TB-1, developed under Andrei Tupolev as the ANT-4, was the first large all-metal aircraft of Soviet design and the first multi-engine all-metal bomber to reach series production. Typical of it are corrugated duralumin sheet and an angular twin-engine high-wing layout with a crew of six. The prototype flew in November 1925, series production ran from the end of the twenties and over two hundred were made; the series machines were powered by Mikulin M-17 engines. The TB-1 became the first standard heavy bomber of the Soviet Air Force and served as a carrier of fighters in the experiments of the Zveno project. A float torpedo version, the TB-1P, also came about, and in the second half of the thirties the machines moved to transport and special tasks.
The span is large even in 1:72, so glue and brace the wing before you fit it to the fuselage. Dry-fit the short-run parts and fill the gaps. Decals settle onto corrugated sheet with difficulty - a gloss base, warm water and a softener applied over small areas will help. A metallic appearance will stand out only on a smooth primer coat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
