Messerschmitt Bf 109, the late versions — Airframe and Miniature 11

This is a book, not a kit. This title is volume number 11 of the flagship Airframe and Miniature series of the British publisher Valiant Wings Publishing. The volumes in the series are divided into a part on the airframe (development, variants, technical description, detail photographs and camouflage) and a modeling part (available kits, built models, surveys of accessories, masks and decals). The author is Richard A. Franks. It takes in the late versions from the F to the K and, with them, the projected Z series.

The F version, called the Friedrich, was an aerodynamic reworking: rounded wingtips, a retractable tailwheel, a cannon firing through the propeller hub and the wing guns deleted. The most numerous was then the Gustav, that is the G series with the Daimler-Benz DB 605 engine, recognizable by the bulges over the gun breeches and, on late machines, by a clean canopy and a taller wooden vertical tail surface. The last production version was the K-4 with the more powerful DB 605D. The Z series stayed a project: it was to join two fuselages into one aircraft.
