Gloster Gladiator — the twelfth volume of the Airframe Album series from Valiant Wings Publishing, a specialist publication on the last biplane fighter of the Royal Air Force.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a specialist publication for modelers, not a kit. The twelfth volume of the numbered Airframe Album series of the British publishing house Valiant Wings Publishing was written by Richard A. Franks and devoted to the last biplane fighter of the Royal Air Force.
The Gloster Gladiator followed from the Gauntlet type, but it was given an enclosed cockpit, a Bristol Mercury radial engine and four machine guns. It came into service in 1937, at a time when it had already been overtaken in concept by monoplanes. Even so it proved itself in combat: over Norway, over Malta, in Greece and in North Africa, and in the colors of the Finnish Air Force in the Winter War against the Soviet Union. The naval Sea Gladiator conversion was used by the Royal Navy, and on Malta the machines known as Faith, Hope and Charity passed into legend.
For modelers who build any form of the Gladiator and need reliable reference for the differences between the series, for the struts, the bracing and the engine cowling. It will appeal to anyone interested in the period of transition from biplanes to monoplanes as well.
