Heinkel He-162 — the thirteenth volume of the Airframe Album series from Valiant Wings Publishing, a specialist publication on the jet fighter from the Volksjager program.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a specialist publication for modelers, not a kit. The thirteenth volume of the numbered Airframe Album series of the British publishing house Valiant Wings Publishing was written by Richard A. Franks and devoted to the jet fighter from the Volksjager program.
The Heinkel He 162 came about at the end of 1944 in the people's fighter program, which was to deliver large numbers of machines quickly and from undemanding materials. The aircraft carried its single BMW 003 jet engine above the fuselage, the nose and parts of the structure were of wood, the tail surfaces were twin and the pilot had an ejection seat. Only weeks passed from the specification to the first flight, and that left its mark on the flying qualities: the machine was sensitive on the controls and dangerous for the poorly trained pilots it was meant for. It never reached extensive combat service.
For modelers who build the He 162 and want to check the shape of the engine nacelle, the wooden parts and the tail surfaces, along with the form of the markings of the last months of the war. It will appeal to anyone interested in the development of the first jet aircraft as well.
