The American Mk.46 torpedo in 1:72 scale from Plusmodel: three printed stores for anti-submarine aircraft and helicopters. An accessory, not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set contains three Mk.46 torpedoes made by 3D printing. Thanks to printing, the shape of the slender body, the tail surfaces and the suspension lugs is crisper than can be reached by injecting plastic into a mold, and with such a slim object that is essential: every surplus tenth of a millimeter shows. These are separate stores that are hung under the wing or into the bomb bay of an already built model, not an aircraft kit.
The Mk.46 is an American lightweight anti-submarine torpedo which has formed the basic weapon against submarines since the 1960s. It is dropped from aircraft as well as from helicopters, launched from surface ships, and it has become a standard in a number of allied navies too. That is precisely why it turns up under the machines that modelers build most often, that is under patrol aircraft and carrier-based helicopters.
Cut the parts off the support structures with a sharp scalpel or a fine saw and level the surfaces with a file; sand with respiratory protection. They are bonded with cyanoacrylate, that is with super glue. Hang the torpedoes only after the fuselage has been painted, so that the surroundings do not have to be masked. Practice rounds tend to have a conspicuous colored band while live ones are uniform, so decide from a photograph of the real thing which version you want to show.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
