About product

Turnbuckles 7.5 mm: resin rigging (Firma49)

These are 3D printed resin turnbuckles from Firma49, not a model of their own. The length of one turnbuckle is 7.5 mm. They serve for a realistic rendering of the rigging and bracing typical of biplanes and older aircraft. There are a good number of them in the package so that they cover a whole model.

What it is for

Turnbuckles are small connecting elements that in reality tensioned the steel wires between the wings and the fuselage. On a model they look very faithful when they terminate rigging stretched from drawn sprue, monofilament or wire.

Building and painting tips

Separate the parts carefully from the supports and clean them up; the resin can be softened briefly in hot water before cutting or drilling so that it does not chip, and it hardens again once cooled. It is bonded with super glue and takes ordinary modeling paints easily. We recommend fine tools and good lighting.

Who the turnbuckles are for

  • builders of biplanes and aircraft with extensive rigging
  • modelers who care about the fidelity of the rigging
  • more experienced builders used to fine resin parts

The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the rigging wire are not included in the package.
