Responsibility details are not available.
A publication, not a kit. Volume No. 89 of the Warpaint series, by the author Tony Buttler, follows the Lancaster from its origin through the individual marks to its special missions, including the squadrons that used it and production data.
The Avro Lancaster was a British four-engined heavy bomber with four Rolls-Royce Merlin engines. It came about by reworking the unsuccessful twin-engined Manchester, and its long undivided bomb bay made it the carrier of the heaviest British bombs. Lancasters also carried special armament: the bouncing bomb for the attack on the German dams and later the Tallboy and Grand Slam bombs, and a Tallboy attack sank the battleship Tirpitz.
For modelers of British bombers who are working out the differences between the marks and the modifications of the bomb bay, and for readers with an interest in the night offensive of Bomber Command. As a source it serves for choosing camouflage and markings and for checking the details that differ between individual versions. It can be read on its own, without previous knowledge of the real subject, and it also works as a general survey of the type.
