A 0.4 mm drill bit of hard sintered material, from DSPIAE. A universal size for a pin vise as well as a modeling mini drill.
Responsibility details are not available.
The middle size of the three in the range and at the same time the most universal one. The 0.4 mm matches the diameter of ordinary copper wire, so a pin, an aerial tube or an ignition lead for an engine can be set straight into such a hole. It is also used for drilling out the muzzles of small weapons and the lightening holes in load beds and gun carriages, which on plastic are often only suggested by a dimple.
A tungsten-based sintered material holds its edge considerably longer than high-speed steel, but it is brittle and will not take being bent sideways. Keep the drill perpendicular to the surface and never lever with it, not even when the bit jams in the hole. A jam is dealt with by pulling out and clearing the chips, not by more pressure. On resin and filler reduce the speed, do not breathe in the resulting dust and wipe the work area with a damp cloth afterward.
For modelers who replace suggested detail with real holes, and for anyone who sets wire and tubing into a model.
Test the hole dry before setting a wire in. During drilling some of the material is pushed inward, so the real passage tends to be tighter than the diameter of the bit suggests.
The package holds the drill bit only. A drill and a holder are not part of it.
