A photographic publication, volume 8 of the numbered Wingleader Photo Archive series from the British publisher Wingleader; the author is Andrew Thomas. The scope is set by the title: the Vampire with the RAF and with overseas users, so the publication does not end with the British squadrons.
The Vampire was the second jet aircraft of the RAF and the first with a single engine. The centrifugal-flow de Havilland Goblin called for a short fuselage and a pair of tail booms, and de Havilland built the forward part of the fuselage from wood, much as on the Mosquito. The type claimed two firsts: the first crossing of the Atlantic by a jet aircraft and the first landing of a jet aircraft on a ship's deck. After the war it became an export article and served in dozens of countries, often long after it had finished its service with the RAF. Alongside the fighter versions and fighter-bombers a two-seat trainer was also built, which differs from the single-seaters in its whole nose.
For modelers of the Vampire who want to build a machine other than a British one and are looking for support for the markings and colors, and for anyone interested in the first generation of jet aircraft. It is a book, not a kit, and you can use it in any scale.
