A pictorial publication from HMH Publications in the Duke Hawkins Classic series, devoted to the American fighter P-51D Mustang. Reference for building and detailing models.
Responsibility details are not available.
The P-51D Mustang was an American single-seat fighter of the Second World War period. The D version received a teardrop canopy and a cut-down fuselage spine, which opened the pilot's view to the rear, and an armament of six machine guns in the wing. It was powered by a V12 engine built under license in the United States, thanks to which the aircraft kept its performance at great altitude. Together with its long range that made it a machine suited to escorting bomber formations to distant targets.
The Duke Hawkins series from HMH Publications rests on photographs rather than on continuous text. The book carries the reference DHC-006 and its focus is detailed pictorial material of a kind that is hard to find in ordinary aviation titles. It therefore serves mainly as working reference at the modeling bench rather than as reading on the history of the type.
The photographs help when deciding on the color and the installation of the cockpit, on the look of the gear bays or on the placement of small protrusions and lettering on the airframe. The reference does not depend on the size of a kit, so you will use it on a model in 1:72 just as on the larger scales. It also serves well when improving older tooling and when planning more demanding modifications.
It will be appreciated by modelers of aircraft of the Second World War and by collectors of aviation literature. It is a printed publication, not a kit. The package contains no parts, decals, paints or model, unless stated otherwise.
