A monograph on the American supersonic Super Sabre, volume number 4 of the British Warpaint series, by Lindsay Peacock. It is a printed publication about the aircraft, not a kit and not an accessory for a build. The series is set up so that one volume covers one type from the prototype to the last version — through archive photographs, color profiles and scale drawings.
The F-100 was the first US Air Force fighter able to fly at supersonic speed in level flight. Under its skin it carried a Pratt & Whitney J57 with an afterburner, and its wing swept at 45 degrees was bold for its day — early machines had trouble with stability and gave their pilots a hard time. From a pure fighter it gradually became a fighter-bomber: the F-100D version carried bombs as well as rockets, and the two-seat F-100F served among other things in the first attempts at hunting down anti-aircraft missile sites. It did the most work in Vietnam, where it earned the nickname Hun.
Above all for modelers who are building a model of this type and are looking for reference on the colors, the markings and the details of a particular machine. Then for aviation historians and collectors of monographs, who will find the series a quick and clear reference handbook to a single type. The text is in English, so a basic command of the language is assumed.
