An English-language monograph from the Warpaint aviation series, published by Guideline Publications. The text was written by Charles Stafrace and it is one of the most extensive volumes of the series. It is not a kit but a publication on the twin-engine two-seat McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II. The book goes through the individual versions, from the naval ones through the reconnaissance machines to those intended for the suppression of air defense.
The Phantom came about as a carrier-based multirole machine, but its performance was such that the land-based air force took it over as well, a rare thing for a naval design. Its distinguishing marks are the kinked tailplane and the wingtips turned upward. More than five thousand were built, it served with the air force, with the Marine Corps and in dozens of foreign services, and with a number of them it lasted into the 1990s and beyond. It is precisely that breadth of versions and markings that makes the Phantom a subject in which a modeler is easily lost without a systematic survey.
For modelers who devote themselves to Phantoms systematically and need to find their way among the versions and markings, and for readers interested in the aviation of the Cold War. The text is in English. Check the extent, the arrangement and the language edition on the box.
