Metal mesh has one fundamental advantage over a textile one: it holds its shape. Once you have formed it over a grille above an engine, it stays that way and needs no tensioning. This material is the fine version, intended by the manufacturer for models of combat vehicles in 1:35 scale. The sheet measures 19 x 10.5 centimeters and is cut to the shape needed. It is not a finished part but a material for further working.
Cut the mesh with sharp scissors or sheet metal shears and true the edges up with a file after cutting, because sharp burrs are left on metal. It is bonded with super glue applied around the edge rather than in the middle of the area. The metal has to be degreased and primed before painting, otherwise the paint comes off the smooth surface. Apply both primer and paint very thinly so that the holes do not get blocked. A slight bow or dent in the mesh looks more convincing than a perfectly flat surface.
The material is supplied as a sheet for further working. Glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
