Soft lead wire eight tenths of a millimeter in diameter in a longer version. The main advantage of lead is that it can be bent with your fingers without tools and stays in its new position. Copper and steel wire cannot do that; they spring back. Thanks to this a lead wire behaves like a real cable that hangs and sags under its own weight.
Cut the wire with side cutters, not with a modeling knife, as soft lead would be squashed flat under the blade. Shape it gradually, over your fingers or over a round object, as sharp kinks look unnatural. It is bonded with super glue, and it is a good idea to sink the ends into a drilled hole. Degrease the surface before painting and apply a primer, or the paint will not hold on smooth metal.
If a cable is meant to hang in a curve, bend it a little longer than you need and give it its final shape only after both ends are glued down. Lead takes that without protest and the result looks natural.
Lead is harmful to health. Wash your hands after work, do not sand the material and keep it out of the reach of children.
